Flemish artist Joris Van de Moortel – a painter, sculptor, performer and musician – builds his “work in progress” around the stigmata of his performances, as well as elements that inhabit his daily life. Through diverted uses of objects and a sense of humour, Joris Van de Moortel imbues his work with a cathartic, poetic dimension akin to that of Marcel Duchamp and Marcel Broodthaers. In giving us his own interpretation of the ready-made, the Belgian artist invites us to enter his creative universe, whose perpetually precarious balance illustrating the constant tension between order and chaos dominates his work, both visual and musical.
