Acrylic and oil on kraft paper
195 x 130 cm
Jacques Clauzel employs a multitude of techniques like engraving, lithography, silkscreen printing, photography and painting. After a period of artistic research working with paper, the artist eventually dedicated himself to kraft paper. His work on paper and other props helped to clarify his style. “By hearing it repeated that I used beautiful colours, which meant […] that those colours were perceived, not for what I expected of them […], but only for their aesthetic qualities, I decided to stop using anything but black and white. […] In short, I think you could say that changing the quality of light […] means acting on colour. […] While a black piece is automatically imposing, thanks to what I’d call its weight (black is heavy and powerful in and of itself, a white piece demands something completely different to attain that power, that strength.”
