Laurence JENK
Born in 1965 in Bourges, France
Lives and works in Vallauris, France
Laurence Jenkell worked first in luxury hospitality before dedicating herself to her passion, contemporary art. She took night classes to learn various techniques, ranging from charcoal to ceramics by way of watercolour and oil. When she tried her hand at engraving, she discovered pressing techniques and opted to apply them to cosmetics that she would crush on canvas to make them into visual artwork or that she would use to create embedded resins. The sweet, a subject of predilection for Laurence Jenkell, is an artistic guilty pleasure that recalls sweetness and childhood, at the crossroads between pop art and new realism. The artist takes on plexiglass, but also aluminium, bronze and marble to glorify her subject through beautiful techniques and beautiful materials. Laurence Jenkell’s work sits on the border between the visual arts, sculpture, design, fashion, graphic arts and communication.
