Louise Nevelson created sculpted assemblages of wood. Using wooden objects that she gathered from urban rubble to create her monumental installations – a process undeniably influenced by Marcel Duchamp’s sculptures of found objects and “readymades” – Louise Nevelson arranged her objects with care. Her art, made of rough materials, sometimes painted black, tells tales taken from her own personal experience. The artist historicizes rubble in the new narrative context of her wall sculptures and assemblages. Her work with cardboard is rare, but is an excellent reflection of the artist’s overall approach.
