Jean-Pierre Schneider refuses to separate the physical act of painting, which demands external use of bodily force, from the necessary introspective vision that nourishes creation. He affirms, “I need to be overwhelmed by what I’m painting”. Often created on large canvases, his paintings can be divided into different series that explore different plastic compositions through the same subject. Having a monochrome aesthetic, his pieces offer a rich surface that is both matte and vibrant. This work in plastic is intimately connected to literature. The titles of his pieces are often accompanied by a quotation, or else the language enters into the work itself. The intensity of motion, visible on each work, is counterbalanced by the sedimentation of the pictorial material, thus bringing to Jean-Pierre Schneider’s work poetry and a powerful equilibrium.
