Cardboard lace and laminated cardboard
54 x 27 x 90 cm

Marie-Anne Thieffry has been experimenting with cardboard for over fifteen years: she loves the softness and modesty of this material, which she can manipulate in search of light, purified shapes, as shown in the sculpture Sérénité. The piece is impressive for its detail, and at first glance the eye may not recognise the cardboard that the artist works with in a variety of ways: lace (thin strips of cardboard meticulously cut with a box cutter), which she folds and crumples to give them the desired shape on a mould, and counter-gluing to highlight the fluting of the material. The artist uses only recycled cardboard as over-cycling is an integral part of her approach.
