Osvaldo GONZALEZ

Tautologia 2

2017

Tapes, plexiglass
220 x 147 cm

This work of art is exemplary of Osvaldo González’s artistic work. Like brushstrokes, the artist meticulously arranges adhesive, creating a space revealed by the light emanating from the back of the work. González likes to recreate places that are familiar to him, attaching great importance to the personal and emotional relationship he maintains with the places he depicts. Here, Tautologia 2 represents one of the exhibition spaces of Galleria Continua, with which the artist works, and which has taken over a former factory in Boissy-Le-Châtel (Department of Seine-et-Marne) called “Les Moulins”, in which the artist has exhibited.

« Taking the use of adhesive tape to the extreme as a fundamental material in his work, the magic lies in evoking a sense of strangeness in almost everyone who encounters his [Osvaldo Gonzalez’s] works: how is the image we see constructed? Is it a photograph, a painting, or something unidentifiable at first glance? Through the use of light and added layers, he creates spaces, compositions, interior landscapes that transform architecture into the focal point of his creations. »1
