SUPPORT FOR THE TRANSPORT OF A WORK – KOKOU FERDINAND MAKOUVIA – PALAIS DE LA PORTE DORÉE

2024

The Collection RAJA – Art Contemporain is delighted to have helped transport the monumental Azeze Ame Adre installation by artist Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia.

The donation of around twenty wooden pallet-boxes enabled the artist to transport the various parts of his ceramic installation from his studio to the Palais de la Porte Dorée on the occasion of the exhibition “Chaque vie est une histoire – carte blanche à 13 artistes sur le Palais” (presented until February 9, 2025).

The work Azeze Ame Adre is composed of several columns assembled from ceramic pieces modeled by the artist and kpatima leaves, a West African plant with mystical and therapeutic qualities. Visitors to the Palais de la Porte Dorée are invited to write letters and place them in the gaps in the columns. They are then burnt by the artist, the ashes being used to make the ink needed to write the next messages.
